A brief history of videogames: blog task

Watch the YouTube video outlining the history of the videogames industry from the 1970s to the 2010s. Now answer the following questions:

1) What were the first videogames like?
The first videogames were simple meaning it had no colour nor graphics.

2) How have videogames changed over time?
Videogames changed a lot over time by having colour put in and by making the graphic look realistic.

3) What do the most successful games have in common? Answer this in as much detail as you can. Think about audience pleasures - what do people like about playing videogames?
The most successful game have a few common things and they are:
1)The fact that you can communicate with others and play meaning they are social games.
2)They have colour version and background screen instead of having it black nor green like the ones on the the old gameboy console.
3)They have created realistic looking graphics and made the game stand so that it attracts the players.

4) What criticisms have been made towards videogames?
Videogames includes a lot of violence and you may get addicted to it so badly that will make your studies effect.

Now answer the next questions:

5) What is Fortnite: Battle Royale?
It’s a mass online brawl where 100 players leap out of a plane on to a small island and then fight each other until only one is left. Hidden around the island are loots where they included weapons and items such as crossbows, rifles and grenade launchers, pistol, bombs, traps, etc. It’s also possible to collect resources that allow you to build structures where you can hide or defend yourself. As the match progresses, the playable area of land is continually reduced, so participants are forced closer and closer together. The last survivor is the winner.

6) How many Fortnite players are there worldwide?
There are more than 40 million players worldwide.

7) Why is it so popular? What are the audience pleasures of the game?
The main reason why this game has become popular is because it is free to play and it’s fun and it has a very silly, offbeat sense of humour. Fortnite: Battle Royale has very bright, almost cartoon-like graphics as well as loads of ridiculous items and costumes, such as space suits and dinosaur outfits so it gets away from the danger zone of serious blood related violence.

8) Copy and paste two comments from 'below the line' of the Guardian article - these are comments written by Guardian readers in response to the feature. Select one comment you agree with and one you disagree with and explain why.
"A fantastic game for all the family. The violence is cartoon-like, not gratuitous or graphic. I limit my children to only playing the Playstation at the weekends. Simple"
I would agree to this comment this is because this is a family typed game i have no doubt in that and the violence on Fortnite: Battle Royale in not that bad.
'Admit I got a bit freaked out listening to Grandson chatting with someone called JohnBoy who I'd never heard of before the arrival of the headset.
"It's OK Grumps, JohnBoy is Archie's friend, he's 9 too" was the explanation.'
I would disagree with this comment because it is the parent's responsibility to look after their own child or relatives and make them safe.
